"But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night."
Psalm 1:2
Meditate-verb; think deeply or focus one's mind for a period of time; in silence or with the aid of chanting; for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation.
I have been practicing yoga for a few years now and I've heard so much lately about the importance of having a "meditation practice". In yoga, to meditate, means to clear your mind of all things so that you can completely let go and relax into the poses.
For me it is a special time I set aside to meet with my Lord. My bible in hand and a prayer on my lips that I might sit with Him and soak up all He has for me during that precious time.
As Christians we are encouraged to "place our minds on things above" (Col. 3:2). It's not good to empty our minds, as some suggest. But to focus on God's Word and His instruction. Meditating on scripture helps us to memorize and to understand it as we walk throughout our day.
How do you "meditate"?
First, ask God to help you carve out time with Him.
Second, be intentional about that time.
Third, focus on God's Word and a time for prayer.
Fourth, make it a habit each day.
When our minds are filled with the goodness and truth of God, we cannot help but be drawn back to Him everyday. Your "quiet time" will become so important you will look forward to it everyday and you will long for it when you have to miss.
Our time with the Lord should also be a time of rejoicing and honoring Him. The Holy Spirit will fill you to overflowing and all you will want to do is raise your hands in praise.
Give it a try! Make this spiritual discipline a habit. God will bring you great peace in your heart when you quietly commune with Him, letting His Word echo in your heart and mind.
"My delight is on the Lord's instruction; and I will meditate on it day and night." Psalm 1:2
I love you & He loves you more!
Lord, show us Your will for our meditation with You. Help us to find time to be with You everyday. Through this time may we hear Your voice and know that You are near. Fill us with Your peace and grow us in our faith. Amen.
Well said, my friend.
Amen!
