Turn the Light On

"You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16

Mine and Nate's favorite game to play is Hide-and-Seek. Nate loves to be the seeker but he is a really good hider; except when hiding in closets. When it is my turn to cover my eyes and count to ten he will run fast and hard to his hiding spot (it being the same spot most times).

Now when Nate hides in closets he switches the light on because he is afraid of the dark. One time during our recreation, before I learned of his fear, I was scouring the house in search of him. As I walk by a particular closet I noticed the light was on, not believing he would have chosen that spot, I flipped the light off (saving energy and all) and then as I walked back by said closet the light was on again. It's true...the light hides nothing or no one.

"When Jesus spoke again to the people, He said, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." (John 8:12)

Light symbolizes purity and divine revelation. Christians are to be beacons of light to all who will respond. We have the light of the world inside of us, we are to shine that light to all who cross our path. Others will notice; question; wonder what we have that they don't (John 1:9). We are to walk as "children of light" (Eph. 5:8) ready to reply to their wonder.

Girls, be a beacon of light to your husband and your children (Matt. 5:15b). We have to be sincere and have integrity of who we are and where our light comes from. Then when you leave your home your light will project onto your co-workers, the daycare teacher that cares for your precious babies, your friends and the people you meet at the grocery store, post office or wherever you may go. We are to walk in obedience to Him who is the Light of the world.

I love you & He loves you more!

Lord, Thank You for Your promise to your children that as a follower we will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life. May I be a beacon in my home and as I go. Forgive me when I am not. May I glorify you always in the way I live my life. Amen.
