"The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."
2 Peter 3:9
Once upon a time there was this sweet, brown haired, brown eyed little girl. She lived in a land of dreams and possibilities where everything was good and sweet and kind.
She loved the color red. She had a red coat, red shoes, red socks, a little ill-fitting red hat and on and on. If you haven't guessed RED was her favorite color.
Her mom prided herself in keeping the little girl's things nice, clean, always in good repair. She wanted the things she bought her to last. But all the little girl could think was, "How can I enjoy my red things even more?" So she set out to find the ways...
She would put on her red shoes and lay on the floor with her legs up the wall so she could stare at her beautiful red shoes. She wore the coat everyday and never took it off, even when indoors.
She had a grand idea one day to go outside to swing wearing her red socks without shoes. That way when she pumped her legs out as she swung she could lean back as her feet went up into the sky and she could take in the beauty of her red socks.
She. Was. Relentless.
Her mama did not understand her obsession. She scolded her many times. She warned her not to go out without her shoes. But the little girl persisted.
You see, this little girl was not vindictive or rebellious. She just knew her love for "all things red" was stronger than her care of her mama's words.
But her mama was not "slack' in her care of all the red things and of the discipline for this little girl, and was long suffering toward her. Not that she would be willing to let the little girl keep disobeying but that the little girl would come to repentance of her neglect of obeying her mama.
God keeps His promises! God loves you with an endearing , awe-inspiring love. He is long suffering. He is relentless when it comes to His children, red socks and all!
I love you & He loves you more!
Lord, may we embrace all the things You are to us. May we bask in the presence of who You are and what You do to bring us into Your righteousness on a daily basis. Your ways are perfect! Thank you for Your pursuit of us so that one day we will come into Your presence because of the blood of Jesus Christ. Amen.
