The Fragrance of Him

Updated: Dec 21, 2020

"Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place." 2 Corinthians 2:14

I have always been a big proponent of wearing perfume. When I was very small my favorite scent was 'Baby Soft', a birthday gift that I treasured. I had to spray the lovely aroma on me each day. When I was a preteen I was introduced to 'Gloria Vanderbilt' cologne. I placed it on the top of my Christmas list in hopes of my parents recognizing the importance of that gift amongst all the others I had listed in order of significance.

A few days before Christmas, I found myself rummaging through Gran's 'special drawer'. The middle, top drawer of her dresser where she kept her jewelry and special keepsakes (that us girls were forbidden to open). I had lost something and just knew it had probably found its way somewhere within her belongings in this drawer.

Truly not expecting to find 'hidden Christmas gifts' (for I never searched for gifts before the big day like someone else in our tribe we all know and love...I'll not name names, she knows who she is) I came upon a white crinkly bag. I carefully opened it and took a peek inside, for what did my wandering eyes behold but the 'Gloria Vanderbilt' perfume I had been longing for all my thirteen years (I'm never one for dramatics)! I quickly closed the bag and pushed it back into its hiding place, carefully closing the drawer and off I went on my merry way completely forgetting why I even went into my parents room in the first place.

Christmas morning came and I couldn't wait to mist the delightful aroma on my wrist and enjoy the fragrance that I had been begging for since the day I had become privy of its existence. After the gifts were all opened and the loot in the stockings had been made known, I soon realized there was no 'Gloria', and upon scanning the room she was nowhere insight. I just knew Mama had found out that I had been in her 'secret drawer' and had taken my gift back to the store! But she asked if I had gotten all that I wanted and I sweetly said, "yes, except for the..." and in mid sentence Mama was running up the stairs and in a flash she was back, holding the white crinkly bag out to me. She had forgotten about this one gift. I innocently and discreetly accepted the gift and took a look inside, guess what...my dream had come true!

"For we are to God the fragrance of Christ..." (2 Cor. 2:15).

May we always be a willing vessel for God to lead us to triumph in Christ so that the fragrance of His knowledge might be on us. May we search for Him as a gift we long for, and may others enjoy the lingering aroma of Him.

That, my girls, is a fragrance no manufacturer would ever be able to replicate in a lab.

The fragrance of Jesus is heavenly!

No matter where life takes us or how hard times might get, know that God is leading you to triumph over all of your trials and setbacks. May His sweet smelling fragrance be always on you.

I love you & He loves you more!

Lord, Thank You for always leading us by Your Holy Spirit through Christ. No matter what we face, You are there to see us through. May we always rejoice in You, and may the fragrance of Christ always and forever be in this place. Amen.
