Search Me, O God

Updated: Apr 2, 2020

"Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting." Psalm 139:23,24

The last time I traveled by airplane was almost two years ago now. I always look forward to going through the 'carry on bag screening' process (I have nothing to hide). I patiently stand in line and watch all the people in front of me taking off certain articles of clothing and such, and being inspected by security, then walking through the metal detector.

When it's my turn I grab a tub, place my bag and my purse inside, take my shoes off and wait for inspection. My property takes a ride down the conveyor belt and smiles for the camera. This is where it gets interesting. I stand there as the watchmen 'watches' all of my belongings with a perplexed expression as they are being made known through the xray scan.

He asks why I might have bananas, apples and grapes (a small produce section) in my duffle? I tell him I eat a whole food plant based diet, and I must not be caught without my particular food selection if ever I was stranded for a long period of time. On this particular trip I'll never forget the advice he gave me..."just remember to discard the peelings and unwanted leftovers you might have. Have a nice flight."

As I make my way through the rest of the examination I have to wonder if he tells every traveler that bit of info or just the ones that carry their own supermarket with them. I mean, it was wonderful words of wisdom and all, but he was preaching to the choir (don't get me started or I'll have to climb up on my 'litter bugs' soap box).

I praise God that He searches my heart, no xray camera needed. He knows all about me from start to finish. His unlimited knowledge of me surpasses my own. I am so thankful for His presence in my life and that His boundary lines of judging my heart is always just, fair, and complete. God knows me as I am, and understands my true thoughts and motives (Hallelujah! Because I don't...most times).

Girls, if you truly want to walk in the Lord's way and feel His presence, you have to be dependent on Him to lead you in the right way.

"He has shown you, O man, what is good;

And what does the Lord require of you

But to do justly,

To love mercy,

And to walk humbly with your God?" (Mic. 6:8)

I love you & He loves you more!

Lord, My heart is open to You, I welcome Your inspection and correction. May I walk in Your way and be obedient to Your commands, and may I love You with all my heart, soul, and strength (Deut. 6:5). Amen.
