"But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost." Matthew 1:20
Joseph was born to be the daddy of the Savior of the world. His purpose on this earth was to be the one who would love the Christ child with a father's love. He would be the one to protect the baby throughout Jesus' childhood. He would feed him, cloth him, teach him. Joseph had a huge responsibility he did not take lightly. Can you imagine?
I share this special song with you today as we celebrate Christ's birth. The first time I heard it was when we were members of our little church many moons ago. Dana sang it during our Christmas program. I cry every time I hear it and I hope it touches you on this special day.
A Strange Way To Save The World -4Him
I'm sure he must have
Been surprised
At where this road had taken him
"And Jacob begot Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus who is called Christ." (Matt. 1:16)
'Cause never in a million lives
Would he have dreamed of Bethlehem
And standing at the manger
He saw with his own eyes
The message from the angel
Come to life.
"And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger. Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men?"
(Luke 2:12;14)
And Joseph said,
(Chorus)
"Why me,
I'm just a simple man of trade?
Why him,
With all the rulers in the world?
Why here,
Inside this stable filled with hay?
Why her,
She's just an ordinary girl?
Now, I'm not one to
Second guess
What angels have to say
But this is such a strange way
To save the world.
"Then Joseph, being aroused from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took to him his wife" (Matt. 1:24)
To think about
How it could have been
If Jesus had come
As He deserved
There would have been
No Bethlehem
No lowly shepherds at His birth
"Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them" (Luke 2:20)
But Joseph
Knew the reason
Love had to reach so far
And as he held the Savior in his
Arms he must have thought...
(Repeat Chorus)
I love you & He loves you more!
