The Surrendered Life

"Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God -who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly- and it will be given to him" James 1:5

Over the years I was blessed to work with the youth, particularly the older girls. I was able to really get to know some awesome young women. We were able to connect with each other on a deeper level in our day to day lives and I tried my best to invest in them to help show them how to grow closer in their relationship with the Lord.

Whenever I was able to spend one on one time with them our conversation always would come around to the question of how she will know what God wants for her future.

~What college should she choose?

~How will she know who the right guy is?

~Is she in a healthy dating relationship and how to know if or when to end it?

~When will God use her in a ministry and how will she know it is from Him?

~How will she know what direction the Lord wants her to go?

So many important questions swimming in their heads searching for answers and meaning and a direction. In the end I always gave them the same advice but knew it was the only advice that would stir them down the right path. If your questioning your life's direction maybe this will help you also.

#1 Learn to surrender your life to God. Our nature makes us want to go our own way; our mind can tell us what we think will be best and our heart will make it seem right at that time. Humility is what it takes to seek God's way. We have to give our lives to Him everyday and trust that He knows what's best.

#2 Listen for God's voice. Pray and read your Bible. Meditate (Be still and know) and memorize verses that speak to you. Write scripture verses in a special journal you can always return to for quick reminders when you find yourself in need of encouragement. Write them on index cards or post it notes placing them on mirrors and doors or in your car for inspiration.

#3 Soak in exactly where you are now. So many times we get caught up in where we want to go we aren't living and enjoying where we are at that moment. We miss so many learning experiences and blessings because we're too caught up in where we want to be. God's timing is perfect. He has a plan and maybe that plan is to let you bloom where He has you now. Trust that He will let you know when it is time to move.

#4 Notice God's open door. When you see it, don't be afraid to walk through it. God works through situations and people to lead us to where He wants us to be. So be alert and active in focusing on Him and where He has you instead of where He might want you to go. You will never miss His guiding when you are focused on His direction in the first place.

We serve a wisdom-filled God. He knows us better than we know ourselves, and He knows exactly what we need. When we are confused or trying to decide on our next steps we may ask family or friends for their advice, which isn't always a bad thing but the first place we should go is to our heavenly Father. He has our plan and He's waiting for us to come to Him.

God's will becomes more clear when we seek Him through prayer and His Word. We only need to be patient and trust that He has the best for us and wants to see us succeed.

"He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good." (Pro.19:8)

I love you & He loves you more!

Lord, Show us our way when we may at times feel lost. Help us to be still and trust Your way of doing things. May we always come to you with open hearts and minds, ready to receive what You have for us in Your time. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
