Sand Castles

For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ."

1 Corinthians 3:11

Since I was a little girl I have loved building sand castles at the beach. It is one of my all- time favorite memories. A few years into my sand sculpting I was introduced to 'drip castles'. Through this amazing realization of what you could do with adding a little water to your sand while building your magical kingdoms was awe inspiring to me (and I ran with it!)

Each summer I would cover our sandy plot of ground with beautiful creations of castles with moats surrounding them, forts with lumbering trees that made large forests and nearby towns with roads that wove in and through and around, imagining cars and people who lived there traveling those streets.

At the end of my long, blissful, beach building day as I finished my masterpiece I would stand back and enjoy the beauty of it. Satisfied with how it all turned out and looking forward to tomorrow's mission of a new build. You see, after many years of experience I knew that at nightfall the tide would move in and destroy all I had worked so hard to produce. The waves of the gulf would crane and swell and reach out and pull away at the foundation on which I built my fortress every single time; no exception to the rule. Each morning I would carry myself back to that same place and all I would find was a flattened piece of white ground that held no remnant of a castle, a small tree, or even a roadway leading to anywhere (the waves have no mercy, and the sand has no backbone).

This is a great reminder for us to make sure that our efforts here on earth are meaningful and constructed to withstand the test of time . Our focus and aim should be building a life on Christ's foundation because it is sure and steady; strong and secure.

"He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved." (Ps.62:6)

When we build on His firm foundation we will be able to stand when the waves of life pound us. When we train our eye on Him and our faith in Him, He will carry us through and help us to stand. The Lord will not allow us to be wiped out by the crests and falls of what we face here on earth.

"I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved." (Ps. 16:8).

Take time today to evaluate your life and see if it is going to survive the forces of the waves that will come your way. Shore-up your foundation on the only One that is able. Allow Him to be your Master builder, then you will have the confidence in Christ to stand against the storms.

"For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day." (2 Tim. 1:12).

I love you & He loves you more!

Lord, I want my life to mean more than building castles in the sand. I know they are beautiful and fun to make but I realize they are not eternal in nature. Help me to evaluate where my foundation stands and where remodeling needs to take place inside of me. Show me Your blueprint for my life and help me to be obedient to walk in Your way. In Jesus' name. Amen.
