O Lord, You Are My Shield

"But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts up my head."

Psalm 3:3

This psalm was inspired by David after he fled from his son, Absalom because of his anger and vengeful plot he had against his Father. David expressed confidence in the Lord as a shield about him. The shield being a piece of leather or metal carried by a warrior for protection against an enemy's sword.

God is our shield against life's troubles and tragedies as David learned throughout his lifetime, we too must realize that truth and cling to Him.

"They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you. For I am with you," says the Lord, "to deliver you." (Jer. 1:19)

The Lord is letting us know He is a personal God. He walks through life with us, cheering us on through our victories and crying with us through our defeats, encouraging us to get up and finish the race, always being an overcomer.

"And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed." (Deut. 31:8)

Through all the ups and downs of our life He is molding us and making us into His image. He is preparing our hearts and minds to focus on Him so that we are Kingdom ready. There is always a reason for what we are going through. God has a plan, remember? (Jer. 29:11)

Trusting in Him and leaning not on your own understanding will set you on the path of deliverance from a mindset of worry and defeat. When we fully grasp the fullness of His passion for us is when we look to the cross. This is our reminder that He is always for us and never against us. God does not want us to struggle with fear and anxiety, He wants us to walk in confidence. Not because of who we are, but because of who He is.

"The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in Him and I am helped; therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him." (Ps. 28:7)

Go to God first; He is always listening. He will renew your strength and give you what you need to persevere. He is on your side wanting you to grow and be strong in Him.

"For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield." (Ps. 5:12)

I love you & He loves you more!

Lord, You are our Shield, protecting us from the evil one. Thank You for Your perfect watch over us. May we always come to You with our fears and inadequacies, for You are able to fill us with Your strength. May we trust in You alone. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
