Look in the Mirror
"But be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. Because if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like someone looking at his own face in a mirror. For he looks at himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of person he was."
James is talking about obedience here. Do you ever look in the mirror at yourself and then walk away and forget what you saw?
We have to read the Word and allow the Holy Spirit to speak to us, teach us, and reveal to us 'the way' as we daily walk with Him. The Holy Spirit lives inside of us directing us on our way if and when we slow down enough to recognize His presence. It's the voice we hear in our head that is telling us what we should do; how we should act and when and how we should respond to situations. He lives inside our heart, always whispering words of truth.
"For the Holy Spirit will teach you at that very hour what must be said." (Luke 12:12).
When we read the Bible it's not like any other book. It is a God breathed Word straight from His heart to His children to give us instruction on a daily basis. So of course we need to read it daily to receive direction and encouragement, and then walk in obedience throughout our day, listening to and then doing just what He lays on our hearts.
"But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom and perseveres in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer who works-this person will be blessed in what he does." (James 1:25)
I believe that nothing happens by coincidence. What we face during our day, the people that cross our path and the circumstances we find ourselves in isn't just happenstance. God is in control.
"I know, Lord, that a person's way of life is not his own; no one who walks determines his own steps." (Jer. 10:23)
We must be obedient to the Lord. Soften your heart as you go, and whisper a prayer every time you question how you should handle a situation, make a decision, or choose a position. He is there waiting to answer!
I love you & He loves you more!
Lord, Thank You for leading, guiding and directing us. You know the way so help us to turn to You and trust You with our whole life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
