"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift." 2 Corinthians 9:15
Thankfulness : conscious of benefit received. (Webster Dictionary)
That just about sums up my feelings when I am swiftly thanking the Lord for my everyday mishaps. You know, like, when I narrowly escape a car accident or I stumble on a flight of steps, but catch myself before falling to my death. Under my breathe, with relief I quickly say, "thank you, Lord!"
I am thankful for my family's good health, employment, our home.
I am thankful for the things I sometimes take for granted, like my car air conditioner, indoor plumbing, shampoo!
I believe we should be in a state of thankfulness at all times. All throughout our day we should whisper words of thankfulness to the Lord for the big things and the small.
I love to hear Nate say "thank you, Bo" for something he received. It's so sweet and innocent. He makes me feel he truly appreciates what I did for him or gave him. He honors my thoughtfulness. (Now, I know he doesn't put all that thought into a "thank you"...but I do.) I think as adults we come to realize just how important it is to be thankful and to express it.
Did you know that the word "thanks" in Greek translation (charis) means grace or favor? The indescribable gift is God's grace and favor which rest upon those who believe. Hallelujah!
He gives us grace because of the blood of Jesus Christ on our lives. From the moment we ask Him into our heart He pours it out freely. He looks on us with favor because of Jesus' surrender on the cross. He made a way for us to come boldly to the throne and give our thanks. We shouldn't take it lightly. We should never miss the chance to be thankful every minute of everyday, and to be more conscious of how He continually blesses us.
I challenge you to start a "Gratitude Journal". Each day make a list of things you would like to thank Him for. It can be as long a list as you want. Whatever is on your heart or comes to mind, write it down. Being intentional about something makes our mind and our heart more prone to do it.
"Now therefore, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name." (1 Chron. 29:13)
So...go get that journal and sharpen your pencil! We've got a lot of writing to do!
I love you & He loves you more!
Father, thank You for Your indescribable gift. Thank You for the hope I find in You. Thank You for Your presence in my life and for reminding me that I am Yours. I love You! Amen.
